Swim Ontario - Position on Suit Technology

The Swimming Development Committee of  Swim Ontario has been monitoring the advancements made in swim suit design and technology and the impact on the sport over the past year and has been discussing the possible effects on competition at the Age Group level. Systemic pressures and perceived benefits have spread throughout the international, national and provincial swimming community that suggest short cuts to performance improvement can be made even at the age group level by using suit technology.

Swim Ontario is focused on managing these pressures by using the SNC and Swim Ontario LTADs as a reference to educate, and provide program opportunities to our members that support and encourage long term athlete development through an emphasis on swimmer technique and improved levels of fitness. A fundamental focus on skill and technique is paramount to success across various stages of athlete growth and development and optimizes performance both in the short term and in the long term career path of athletes.

The attached documents expand on SNC, the CSCTA and Swim Ontario positions to prioritize and focus on technical development.

Swim Ontario will continue to update members on the international and national decision making around suit technology.
