Speaker Bios Barbara Schultz, Life Coach OPTions Optimally Planned Transitions Barb has been involved with swimming and Swim Ontario for over 15 years. Together with her husband John, she has been a swim parent to 2 daughters and a level three official, actively involved at the club level. Although her daughters are now grown, both remain in the sport. Her eldest Kaitlyn has been the Head Coach of the Variety Village Flames since 2009 and has recently moved to Kitchener to accept a full time coaching position with ROW. Kaitlyn has successful placed one of her athletes on two successive Paralympic world championship teams. Her younger daughter Paige, a member of numerous national teams has recently returned from a year on scholarship at Arizona State University and has decided to remain in Canada to train at the National Training Centre in Toronto and to study and swim at the University of Toronto. Barb holds a B.A. in economics from York University and is employed as a Continuous Improvement Project Leader and project with a large corporation. This expertise combined with her experience guiding her own daughters through the university selection process including American and Canadian schools led her to realize that the choices for post secondary education for this generation, particularly student athletes can be overwhelming. Based on the principal of optimizing choice by striving to keep options open and basing the final decisions on well defined personal goals and values, Barb created her company OPTions: Optimally Planned Transition and has completed her classroom training at the Adler Institute of Professional Coaching and is now working with student athletes through their high school years to enable them to adequately prepare for one of the biggest decisions of their young lives. Barb shares resources and timelines with her clients but leads them to their own choice rather than offering advice. Barb is also writing a book as a supplement to her coaching activities. |
