Para Swimming Classifications

Classification Request Form

There will be three classification opportunities offered to high school swimmer requiring functional classification (swimmers with a physical disability).

They will be held:
Kingston Saturday November 20, 2010 at the Kingston Family Y  (Deadline - November 12)
Toronto Saturday December 11, 2010 at the Etobicoke Olympium (Deadline November 30)
London Saturday January 29, 2011 at the Canada Games Pool (Deadline January 15)

Coaches can check the Swimming Canada Athlete Data base to see if their swimmer has a current classification

Swimmers must have at least a provincial level classification to compete as a para swimmer. 

Swimmers with out a classification must meet the following swimmer criteria prior to classification. 

Functional Classification (S1-10)

Swimmers 11 and over who meet the following minimal swimming criteria:
S1-4 must be able to swim a 75m IM (no fly)
S5-10 must be able to swim a 100m IM prior to classification.

  • Swimmers requiring classification for high school meets should submit the attached Request for Functional Classification form to Lindsay Taylor, Swim Ontario lindsay@swimontario.com
  • You will be notified by e-mail about your classification appointment.

 Visually Impaired Classification (S11-13)

  • High School swimmers who are blind or visually impaired who have not been previously classified should complete a National Swimming Classification for the Visually Impaired request form.
  • Please contact Lindsay Taylor (lindsay@swimontario.com) to request a form. The form must be completed by the swimmer’s ophthalmologist. 
  • Completed forms must be submitted to Swimming Canada fax (613) 260-0804. If you have any question you should contact Janet Dunn at (250) 721-6782 or jdunn@swimming.ca
  • You will be notified by email as to the swimmers eligibility and class

 Intellectually Disabled Classification (S14)

  • Canadian swimmers who are intellectual disabled who have not previously been classified should complete a national swimming classification for intellectually disabled form.
  • Please contact SNC (613) 260-1348 or get a form from SNC web site .
  • The S14 documentation must be submitted to Swimming Canada fax (613) 260-0804
