About the Presenters
Erik Sesbreno MSc (c), RD, CBDT, Dip. Sport Nutrition IOC, Sport Dietitian
Erik has been working at the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario with targeted athletes and coaches to develop and deliver world-class nutrition support in the daily training environment, assist with body composition management, conduct nutritional assessments to determine nutritional requirements and develop evidence-based nutrition plans focused on the needs of the sport and the athlete. He also conducts, collaborates in and evaluates research and innovation projects to further the discipline.
He is a certified bone densitometry technologist and an ISAK level 3 anthropometrist. He has developed proficiency at using Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) and surface anthropometry for assessing and monitoring body composition changes in high performance athletes. He receives multiple requests to operate ISAK accreditation courses for professionals in high performance sports across various locations in North America such as the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific, University of Victoria, Canadian Sport Institute Calgary, Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba, Canadian Sport Institute Ontario, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa University, l’Institut National du Sport du Quebec, Dalhousie University, Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic, University of Florida, Buffalo Sabers and University of Oregon.
In 2016, Erik delivered targeted nutrition and body composition support services for swimmers on the Rio Olympic team training at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Currently, he is the nutrition lead for the national sprint program at the high performance centre in Toronto and supports swimmers of all specialties on the national program residing in Ontario. Recently, he was assigned to the Swim Ontario performance program and is looking forward to supporting developing athletes and their coaches achieve their aspirations in performance sports.
Dr Judy Goss
Former swimmer herself, married to Sandy Goss 1984 Silver medalist, 1988 Bronze medalist, mother to Kennedy Goss 2016 Bronze medalist 4 x 200 free relay.
Judy Goss, PhD is a Mental Performance Consultant, who works with National and Olympic Team members in Ontario including athletes from Wheelchair Basketball Canada, Skate Canada and Beach Volleyball. Judy received her PhD in Sport Psychology from the University of Maryland and is a Certified Consultant by the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. She has served as the Mental Performance Lead for the National Sport Science and Sport Medicine Advisory Committee for Own the Podium. As an associate member of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy she is also qualified in family and marriage counseling.
Currently sitting on the Managing Council of Canadian Sport Psychology Association, Judy maintains a private consulting practice working with athletes from a wide variety of sports. She has written numerous articles and presented at national and international conferences.
