It is with sadness that we bring news regarding the passing of long-time Official, Horst Tietze.

Horst’s daughters sent Swim Ontario notification on Friday night (Jan.26):

Please inform the colleagues of Horst Tietze that he passed away 2 days ago in Hawaii peacefully at the age of 80.

Thank you, His daughters, Linda and Carol

Horst was a FINA Official for Canada on 2 consecutive FINA Swimming Officials lists, representing Canada at multiple International events including:

1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria (BC), 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester (UK), 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal (QC).

Horst was heavily involved in Officiating in Ontario, and he was presented a Central Region Distinguished Service Award in June 2015 upon retirement as Regional Officials Representative of Central Region position for over 25 years.

Horst was awarded the Swim Ontario – 1995 Elizabeth Collins Ralph Trophy for Officiating and was awarded the Swimming Canada – 2008 Ken Filippelli Award, Official of the Year.

He was also an official at a number of Masters Swimming Championships in Canada, and Internationally at locations including Sweden and Italy.

Horst will be missed and remembered fondly by many people involved with swimming in Canada.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this time.
