Team Ontario April 2017

Congratulations to the swimmers on their nomination to Team Ontario for the 2017 Canada Games!

Vicki Keith has been named the Head Coach. Vicki is the Head Coach of the Kingston Y Penguins, which she developed into the largest Swim Club in Canada for Para Swimmers. She has numerous awards and achievements from decades long involvement in the sport of swimming – including a double crossing of Lake Ontario as well as crossing all five of the Great Lakes in a 61 day period. Vicki was on the SNC Coaching Staff at the 2009, 2011 and 2013 Para World Championships and has previous Canada Games experience as part of the Team Ontario Coaching Staff in 2009.

Joni Maerten-Sanders has been named the Team Manager. Joni is the Head Coach of the Wilmot Aquatic Aces, coaching swimmers of all abilities and ages. She is a Chartered Professional Coach with many years of experience with Developmental, Age Group, Para and Special Olympic swimmers. Joni was a Coach on the Team Ontario Staff at the 2005 Canada Games and she coached swimmers to spots on Team Ontario at both the 2009 and 2013 Canada Games.

Lloyd Brown has been named the Special Olympics Assistant Coach. Lloyd has been coaching swimmers of all ages since 2006. He is a volunteer coach, and full-time Air Traffic Controller, with more than 10 years experience coaching Special Olympic swimmers. Lloyd was a coach on Team Ontario at the 2014 Canada National Special Olympics Games and he coached at the 2012 and 2016 Ontario Provincial Special Olympics Games. These are his first Canada Games.

Kevin Anderson has been Nominated as an Assistant Coach.  Kevin has placed athletes on every level of Canada’s National Team Program and those athletes have gone on to break 4 Canadian Records.  In 2010 he was awarded the Junior Coach of the Year Award in Alberta and had athletes qualify to represent Canada at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the Youth Olympic Games. Kevin was selected to coach at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in 2010, the World University Games Team in 2009 and the Great Britain Tour team in 2011. In the 2015-2016 season he placed an athlete on Canada's National Junior Team and was chosen to Swimming Canada's Select Coaches Group.

Stewart McLean has been Nominated as an Assistant Coach. The 2017/2018 season marks Stewart's 11th season as the Thunder Bay Thunderbolt’s Head Coach and Technical Director. Previous to his time with the Thunderbolts, Stewart served as Head Age Group Coach for the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club for five years and was Head Coach/Owner for Forest City Swimming in London for 4 years. Stewart is also a very active member of the swimming community, past serving as a board member for Swim Ontario, Regional Director for Western Region and Coaches Representative for Northwestern Ontario. Stewart has also served as Team Manager and Apprentice Coach for a number of Ontario Tour Teams including the 2009 Canada Summer Games.

Sergei Soloukhin has been Nominated as an Assistant Coach.  Sergei Soloukhin has been the Head Coach of BAD since 2002 and has over 25 years of coaching experience. He has a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education and Sports and is a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC) with the Coaches of Canada. Sergei was the Head Coach for 2007 Paul Bergen International Meet (Canadian Youth Team); the Head Coach for Team Ontario at the 2008 Tri Meet and the Women’s Coach at the 2009 Age Group Nationals, Australia (Canadian Junior Team).

Mandatory Training Camps:
June 9 & 10, 2017
at TPASC: Starts ~ 12 noon on Friday, June 9th and finishes at ~4:30 pm on Saturday, June 10th.
August 2-5, 2017 at TPASC: Starts ~ 12 noon on Wednesday, August 2nd and runs until Departure for the 2017 Canada Games which will take place on Saturday, August 5th.
More detailed schedule will preceded the Camps.

Food, Snacks and Accommodation will be provided by Swim Ontario for the two Training Camps.

2017 Canada Games: competition in Winnipeg.
August 5: Departure from Toronto to Winnipeg, via Canada Games Charter.
August 6: Pool Training
August 7-11: Pool Competition
August 12: Open Water Competition
August 13: Return from Winnipeg to Toronto, via Canada Games Charter.

Note: Nomination does not guarantee specific event entry. All entries shall be determined at the discretion of the Team Ontario Head Coach and Canada Games Coaching Staff.

The Swim Ontario apparel provider for the event, Kukri, uses atypical sizing, particularly on the female sizes.  PLEASE refer to the sizing chart found HERE.  Exchanges will not be available.
