Awards

The SOCC has performed a review of its current awards. Several deficiencies became apparent through the process which has been addressed through the removal of several awards and the implementation of new criteria to better award the coaches of Ontario.

A Coaching award for service has been introduced to recognise those who go above and beyond to improve the state of swimming in Ontario. An award for the Most Improved Team at a Provincial Championship meet has also been introduced to recognise coaches who best prepare their athletes for the appropriate Championships.

Please read below for a brief description of each award offered by the SOCC.


The Lea Bredschneider Award:
Awarded to a volunteer coach who is who is providing a significant contribution to swimming in Ontario

Criteria considered for nomination:

  • Must be current members of Swim Ontario and CSCTA
  • Must be coaching in a volunteer capacity for a minimum of 3 years
  • Must be at least certified Level 1

Nominations:

  • Nominations to be submitted directly to the SOCC members
  • Please include experience, coaching details, etc.

The Coaching Service Award:
Awarded to the coach voted on by Ontario Coaches to be considered as "contributing positively to the coaching environment and improving performances of swimming in Ontario"

Criteria considered for nomination:

  • Promotes the development of young coaches in their Club and Region through their involvement in Provincial and Regional Activities
  • Works with, or is involved with developing swimmers across a range abilities and levels in their Club, Region and/or Province
  • Actively involved in promoting the sport of swimming in their community, region, and throughout the Province of Ontario.

Nominations:

  • Each Region may nominate a coach
  • The community of coaches of Ontario, irrelevant of Region, may submit a name of a coach for consideration
  • If no nominations are received, SOCC will nominate an individual
  • Nominations may be collected electronically or manually

Performance Awards

Individuals:

  • Maintain awards for Top Performances by an Ontario Male and Female Able-bodied and Para Athlete, training in Ontario. Awarded to the Coach of the swimmer with the highest World Rank in an Olympic event.

Teams:

  1. Awarded to the most improved Male Team at the Winter Festival, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  2. Awarded to the most improved Female Team at the Winter Festival, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  3. Awarded to the most improved Male Team at the Ontario Age Group Championships, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  4. Awarded to the most improved Female Team at the Ontario Age Group Championships, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  5. Awarded to the most improved Male Team at the Summer Festival, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  6. Awarded to the most improved Female Team at the Summer Festival, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  7. Awarded to the most improved Male Team at the Ontario Long Course Championships, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
  8. Awarded to the most improved Female Team at the Ontario Long Course Championships, based on Improved Times at the Competition.
